Sclerotherapy (pronounced sklair-o-THAIR-uh-pee) is a medical procedure that has been used since the 1930s to treat varicose and spider veins. It is considered one of the most effective treatments for removing unwanted leg veins. Sclerotherapy is indicated for uncomplicated spider veins (very small varicose veins ≤ 1 mm in diameter) and uncomplicated small varicose veins (1 to 3 mm in diameter) known as reticular veins. The procedure involves injecting a solution directly into a vein, causing the treated vein to seal shut and fade from view over time. The treated blood vessel (vein) is then naturally resorbed by the body.
ScLerotherapy Consultation & Treatment
All new patients of Soul Aesthetics start with a thorough consultation to determine is sclerotherapy is the right treatment for you. It may be determined that a referral to a vascular surgeon is necessary if the vessels are larger or more complicated. Education is a very important aspect of the consultation so all of the risks and benefits of each treatment will be discussed. If you are a good candidate for sclerotherapy, we will schedule a separate appointment for treatment. The treatment should take about one hour. Most patients report minimal discomfort.
Sclerotherapy DOWNTIME
Patients can return to work immediately after injections. Following treatment, you may experience some slight bruising. Post care instructions will be explained in your appointment; however it is recommended you wear compression hose for 72 hours following treatment and avoid heavy exercise. Light walking is recommended following treatment.
Leg Vein TReatment RESULTS
It may take up to six weeks to see full results, and multiple treatments may be needed to achieve optimal results. We will schedule a follow up appointment six weeks after your initial appointment. At this time, we will assess your results and recommend further treatment if needed.
